Holiday Cards and Blog Challenges!

Part of my fall is designing & sending cards out to my Jewish family and friends who celebrate the Jewish New Year and Day of Atonement – Rosh Hashana & Yom Kippur, respectively.  This year I combined designing my idea and trying a “Challenge” where I design a card according to the “playing rules” of a blog.
This time I am trying the sketch design from Freshly Made Sketches #154

Here is my entry:
I used the colors from SU Paper Stack Moonlight as a color inspiration Blackberry Bliss, Hello Honey, & Lost Lagoon.  The two strips of Designer Series Paper were taken from that paper stack and the shapes were cut from SU Label Collection Framelits in Whisper White & Lost Lagoon Card stocks.  The background is Blackberry Bliss Card Stock and is embossed with the Modern Mosaic Textured Impressions embossing folder. The beautiful filigree Star Of David stamp and the Shalom greeting came from an older, retired set from 2012, “Jewish Celebrations.” I "sponged" the edges of the "Shalom" sentiment and embellished with white pearls colored with SU “Blendabilities Markers” using the medium tone of Daffodil Delight and a combo of Night of Navy and Rich Razzleberry for the dark purple pearl in the center of the Star of David.

This was a really fun project to try.  The Sketch was pretty simple and straight forward.  I am excited to try a new one next week.

Weather Postpones My Shipment

Apparently, the effects of weather has delayed the mail just long enough to miss my planned workshop by one day. Darn it all anyway! So, I invite you to consider a postponement to try the Paper Pumpkin opportunity until Tuesday, September 30th from 7-9 pm.
Please RSVP to to confirm your reservation. I have room for a total of 5 because the kit comes with enough to make 6.

Meanwhile, enjoy this Stampin' Up! YouTube video about the Paper Pumpkin kit for September.

Baby Boy Card in a box
We have had a couple of new babies in our family over the last few months.  My latest favorite card style is the “exploding” card in a box.  It is much simpler to make than it looks, but the many cut out elements make it a very special card to receive.  I especially love the balloons.  I CASE’d this card from a video by Demonstator Sandi Magiver. I just switched out different elements to fit the occasion.

First Blog Post

I always seem to wake up again when Summer is over and Autumn begins.  Maybe it's because the time of year when school starts again and lazy summer days give way a sense of purpose and direction It's really my favorite time of year. The weather changes and the Holiday Season starts with Labor Day & the Jewish Holy Days and moves right through into Winter and the Hanukkah/Christmas Holiday Season. This past summer was a lot of rest and recuperation from my total shoulder replacement surgery in June. I'm ready to get moving and back in the swing of things again.

With the holidays people start to reconnect and make time to catch up with old friends and make in-roads with new friendships. And it's not merely web communication.  It's the old fashioned kind that has a postage stamp and goes in your mailbox. It's the kind of communication that can be made by hand and show the love that you put into every snip, stamp and word.  There's so much joy in a hand made project.  It's good for your soul and the souls of the people you give it to.

Here's to the joy of the harvesting of the soul! To the comfort of cooler weather and warm fire places and cozy blankets! To the warmth of friends and loved ones
